We are the teachers in the English Department of Institut Francesc Macià, a secondary school in Cornellà de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain. In this blog we present our project THE WORLD AROUND US SPEAKS ENGLISH, which was awarded a grant by the Spanish Ministry of Education this autumn. The grant paid for a week of an immersion English course for 25 thirteen year old students (2ºESO), to take place in a secluded youth hostel in the Pyrenees. The main objective of the project is to improve our students’ oral skills, by encouraging them to use English all the time during their interaction with native speakers who don’t speak Spanish, and, hopefully, replicate the experience back to school in normal classes. We also aim at raising their awareness about environmental issues, gender equality and global justice. Here you will find the activities, teaching videos, photo galleries, interviews, role-plays and the students’ video diaries of that week in the mountains.
